PSG went down 3-1 to in-form Lille on Saturday night in Week 20 of Ligue 1. Obraniak, Balmont and Béria all scored for the home side while Mevlut Erding netted a late consolation strike for the capital club.
Seven matches, seven victories, 26 goals scored. Lille are in imperial form, as PSG learned firsthand at Stadium Lille-Métropole. Les Dogues made the ideal start thanks to a crisp Obraniak shot which gave Edel no chance as it flew across the face of goal and nestled inside the far post (1-0, 5’). The play wasn’t always beautiful, thanks to a heavy and uneven playing surface. Both sides struggled with the conditions and only Cabaye (21’) and then Hazard (44’) threatened to further trouble the scorers.
Rudi Garcia’s started the second half as they had the first with Hazard going close to adding a second (51’) before Balmont did just that with a powerful header (2-0, 52’). And the northerners weren’t finished there. Béria glanced home a Cabaye header for number three (3-0, 68’). Les Parisiens managed to get on the scoresheet themselves thanks to an Erding header after good work from second-half substitute Jean-Eudes Maurice down the left (3-1, 82’). But there was no way back into the game and PSG started 2010 with a Ligue 1 defeat. A defeat that the players will be wanting to make up for this Wednesday when Monaco visit the Parc des Princes in Week 21.
