PSG went down to a narrow 1-0 loss away to Rennes in an entertaining match between the two sides. The Parisians were caught out by the only goal of the game scored by Ismaël Bangoura in the 40th minute.
Yet it was Antoine Kombouaré’s men that started the game well. Mevlut Erding fired just wide of Douchez’s goal as early as the 12th minute. Moments later he was released clean through by Zoumana Camara, his shot beating Douchez... but not the upright (17’)!
The Brittany side then carved out chances of its own, as Tettey (22’), Bangoura (24’, 26’) and Hansson (36’) were al denied by the excellent Apoula Edel or fired wide. Rennes had the upper though and Bangoura finally opened the scoring just before half time. Played in by Gyan, the Guinea striker sent his finish beyond the PSG ‘keeper (1-0, 40’).

The second half saw the two sides exchange attacking blows. The home side enjoyed some good counterattacks without being able to increase their advantage through Bangoura (49’, 68’, 88’), Gyan (67’), Marveaux (74’), Briand (78’, 85’) and Leroy (87’). For their part, the Parisians joined in the party. Stéphane Sessegnon (58’) and Erding (70’) failed to hit the target, but it was Jean-Eudes Maurice that had the best chance, firing wide after being set up by Ludovic Giuly (89’). There was to be no way back for PSG who missed out on the chance to rejoin the leading pack. They will have another chance next Wednesday with the visit of Grenoble to the Parc in the final game of 2009.
