PSG 1-1 Lens

Match Report | 2009-12-16 | 23:15

It’s never easy to win two home games in a row... A fact PSG was reminded of on Wednesday night against Lens. But it wasn’t from a lack of trying!

You don’t change a winning team so coach Antoine Kombouaré started the same eleven players that had defeated Saint-Etienne three days earlier, 3-0. After spending the first hour of the game trying to break down a packed Lens defence, when they finally went ahead, the capital club was unable to hold onto its lead. Captain Claude Makelele opened the scoring with a wonderful piece of skill (1-0, 70’), but PSG were ahead for just four minutes, before Maoulida beat Edel from a Roudet cross (1-1, 74’).

Paris can feel plenty of regrets after dominating large periods of the match, and creating chances, such as Luyindula’s volley saved by Runje (26’), or Sessegnon’s cross that somehow evaded Armand and Erding (42’). And it was the same in the second half with Sessegnon finding space on the edge of the box only to fire over (64’).

The single points from the draw, coupled with the other results on Wednesday saw PSG climb two places in the standings up to eighth, just four points down on third place.
