Paris Saint-Germain recorded a big win over Saint-Etienne on Sunday, thanks largely to a brilliant first-half and goals to Peguy Luyindula, Stéphane Sessegnon and Mevlut Erding.
There were 38,462 in attendance. 38,462 fans of PSG braving the cold Sunday evening in the capital. 38,462 who should have turned up on time to the Parc des Princes. Les Parisiens started in impressive fashion, pressing Les Stéphanois all over the park. Sessegnon (9’) and then Marcos Ceara (10’) opened hostilities, but Janot produced a pair of excellent saves. But the visiting goalkeeper only forestalled the inevitable. After a quickly taken free-kick from Sylvain Armand, Christophe Jallet strode forward and his shot was spilt by Janot and Luyindula was on hand to knock the rebound home (1-0, 11’). PSG weren’t to settle for their solitary goal lead and just sixty seconds later, Sessegnon inherited Mamadou Sakho’s long ball to fire the ball across Janot and into the far corner (2-0, 12’). Le Parc erupted!

Les Verts, stunned, found no answer to their hosts tempo. Erding twice (19’, 35’) tested Janot. The third time of asking was the right one. From a Jallet free-kick, the Turkey international rose to nod the ball past the Saint-Etienne ‘keeper (3-0, 39’). The second half was to be an agonisingly long and futile exercise for Les Verts, beaten by the control exerted by Antoine Kombouaré’s organised men.

Les Parisiens bouncing back after last weekend’s narrow loss to Bordeaux and move back into contention ahead of Wednesday’s visit of Lens to the Parc des Princes!
