Paris Saint-Germain proved too strong for Fiorentina in Italy on Wednesday night, running out 3-0 winners thanks to goals from Mevlut Erding, Ludovic Giuly and Peguy Luyindula.

It was PSG that stole the show at the official presentation of Fiorentina’s season, scoring three unanswered goals and confirming that Antoine Kombouaré’s squad is in tip top form just ten days from the start of the 2009/10 campaign.

Mevlut Erding took advantage of his Italian trip to register his first goal in a PSG shirt (0-1, 24’). And he did all himself, robbing Kroldrup before scoring past Frey from a tight angle.

The long range effort from Vargas (29’), did little to dampen the spirits of the 20 travelling Parisian supporters. Quite the opposite. Released by Marcos Cearà, Ludovic Giuly broke the offside trap and raced clear to double the advantage (0-2, 33’).


The Parisians controlled the first-half, strong and organised at the back and deadly in attack, PSG produced a quality performance, highlighted by Peguy Luyindula’s effort, turned around by Frey in the hosts’ goal (38’). The front pairing of Luyindula and Erding was showing plenty of promise, even if the former Sochaux ace could have released Giuly through on goal moments before the half-time break.

As expected, coach Kombouaré decided to increase the playing time of his squad and began the second period with an identical XI. A move that was to pay dividends after the brilliant play by Stéphane Sessegnon down the left set up Luyindula for the third with a simple finish (0-3, 50’). Coming off the back of 20 goals scored in their first two friendly games (13-0 and 7-0), Fiorentina looked groggy, but not knocked out and Clément Chantôme was on hand to deflect Jorgensen’s effort behind for a corner.

The Parisians then defended Grégory Coupet’s goal until the end, who has conceded just one goal (versus Panthrakikos) since the start of preseason, in four games (v Pontivy, Nantes, Panthrakikos ad Fiorentina). A former defender himself, Kombouaré must be delighted by what he has seen so far. And a new challenge awaits this weekend in London in Arsenal’s Emirates Cup.
