’Keepers start the hard work

Training camp | 2010-07-09 | 00:47

PSG’s three goalkeepers are making the most of the training camp in Aix-les-Bains to find their feet under the direction of a new mentor, Gilles Bourges.

Special training for a special position. After training with the whole squad for the physical conditioning session in the morning, PSG’s trio of goalkeepers spent Thursday afternoon in a special training session in stifling heat. Goalkeeping coach Gilles Bourges prepared a tailor-made program of catching and movement exercises: “The heat made the session pretty tough but the lads had a great attitude and got stuck right in. I’m really happy to be working with them. They’ve got great personalities and there’s an excellent feeling among the three of them.

The mercury was pushing 30° in the shade but the ’keepers continued to move, catch and dive in the open sunshine while the pile of water bottles shrank like a snowman in the tropics. So there were no complaints from Greg, Edel and Alphonse as the automatic sprinkler system kicked into action. “It was really hot but the session went well,” said Edel. “I’m getting stronger and stronger and I hope that in two weeks I’ll be ready.” About a hundred fans showed up to watch the training session and, despite the fatigue, the ’keepers and their teammates sign autographs and posed for photos. Then it was back to the hotel to regroup and recover before a long day of more hard work on Friday.
