Paris Saint-Germain striker Mevlut Erding looks ahead to this weekend’s trip to Nancy and further afield to the fast approaching Clasico against rivals Marseille...

Mevlut, PSG got back to winning ways against Vesoul. How did you see the match?
“I felt good physically. The biggest problem was the pitch. We were playing football on an unplayable pitch. The ball was uncontrollable. Despite that, we managed to open the scoring through Ludo (Giuly) and then hold on for the result. The most important thing in the Cup is to win. We did that.”

Some big sides such as Bordeaux and Marseille were eliminated on Wednesday. Is the Cup a priority now?
“For me personally, yes, it’s a big objective. Everyone in the team wants to win it. I haven’t played in a final until now and that’s why I want to give everything in the Cup games.”

Before then, PSG is on the road to Nancy this Saturday. How is the squad approaching the game?
“There are a lot of problems around the club. Today, everyone is concentrating on the Nancy game. We want to defend well and show that we’re not going to give up this season. That’s how we’ll get out of this mess, by fighting for each and every ball. We have to show we want it out on the pitch.”

Nancy have a reputation for being a strong defensive team...
“It will be a very even match because we’re struggling a little and Nancy are bounced back a little recently. It’s going to be tough but I think the team that wants it more and can take their chances will claim the three points.”

You will soon be playing in your first Clasico at the Parc des Princes. Are you getting impatient?
“First of all, I signed for PSG because it’s the club I always wanted to play for. I don’t regret my choice. But PSG-OM really has me chomping at the bit to get to the Parc. I really hope the supporters back us because it’s a game that really means a lot to us.”
