Sessegnon: ‘Give it everything!’

Interview | 2010-02-03 | 16:30

In the starting line-up alongside Guillaume Hoarau and Mevlut Erding against OL, the Parisian No.10 looks back at the game at the Stade Gerland, and ahead to the weekend’s clash with Lorient.

Stéphane, is the team disappointed with the loss to Lyon?
“Obviously we feel we’ve only got ourselves to blame. We opened the scoring away to Lyon and we probably should have controlled the match better. We gave them the chance to beat us. It’s a real shame and it’s not the first time it’s happened. If we want to do something this season, then we have to cut out that type of error.”

You started alongside Guillaume Hoarau and Mevlut Erding. What do you think about their partnership?
“They combined well, especially in the first half. I combined well with both of them and I think we complement each other well. It was the first time that all three of us play together at the same time. hope we can keep bringing more to the team in the coming games.”

Mamadou Sakho is going through a rough patch. Is the squad sticking beside him?
“We’re doing our best because we know it isn’t easy for him. Mamadou has enormous talent. He’s down on himself and working hard. People talk about him as a future France national team defender. There’s a reason for that. He works hard, he’s young and he doesn’t have a big head.He needs to keep on working. He has the potential to go a very long way.”

How is the squad approaching the Lorient game?
“We need to win because we’re coming off three straight league losses. Lorient are a tough team to play against. Les Lorientais caused us problems in the first game. We haven’t won for a little while at home... We have to give it everything! We can’t afford the doubt to get into the monds of the players or the fans. We need to lift our heads against Lorient and get the win.”

Is the French Cup a priority for you?
“We’re still qualified so we’re going to try as hard as we can to go all the way. In the league, we’re 14th, but there are still 16 games left. Nothing’s lost yet. We need to string together a few wins. I’m convinced we have what it takes.”

Should you take more risks as PSG’s playmaker?
“I think so. There are 16 games left and I can’t afford to keep on thinking about it – now I have to do it! I need to be more effective going forward. I have to do what I can to make Guillaume and Mevlut shine. If I can shake off the shackles, I think it will work for us.”
