Clément, a great win after two months without a victory...“Before the game, we told ourselves that we needed to take our chances if we were to start winning again. We’d been playing well without being able to win. In our minds, we were desperate to get the three points to climb back up the ladder. We did that, with a little style. We were really happy after the game.” And it was your first start of the season...
“I knew I was ready because I worked hard in preseason. I knew my first start of the season would come along sooner or later and when it did, the main thing was to make the most of it. As a result, I felt a little pressure but it went pretty well. The coach talked to me a lot before the game and I felt very comfortable right from the start of the game. We also saw a fair bit of the ball which suits me well. I was then lucky enough to score a goal, it put us two up so it really was a great night.” Indeed, you found yourself one-on-one with the ‘keeper which doesn’t happen to you oten...
“Yeah, but I didn’t have too much time to think about it. The goalkeeper came out so quick that my only option was to try and chip it over him. It went in! I’d already scored in the Cups but never in Ligue 1 so obviously I’m delighted. A first goal in the championship is very important and gives a lot of confidence.”
“Mev (Erding) is a huge boost. He’s powerful, moves around an enormous amount, makes lots of calls, chases through-balls... It’s important for our game plan to know he’s there. We couldn’t wait to get him back.” How are you approaching Saturday’s home match against Nice?
“The same way we prepared for Sochaux. We have to win and string together a few wins to meet the club’s aims and expectations which are to qualify for Europe. We’ll have to play well to get the win.” Like Sochaux, Nice are on a good run…
“But we’re here to stop them!”
