PSG returns to action away to Monaco this Sunday at 9pm, after a two-week international break. It provided the chance for us to catch up with Grégory Coupet and discuss life at the capital club...
Greg, how was training on Wednesday?“We really suffered this morning. I’m feeling pretty tired because the ‘keepers worked really hard against to very good strikers of a football: Antoine Kombouaré and goalkeeping coach Nicolas Dehon.” What are PSG’s aims for this weekend’s trip to Monaco?
“Monaco are unbeaten at home but need to find a bit of form away from home. They play better at home and so we have to build on our good start to the season and force them to slip up. We’ll have to be patient, use our experience and play hard. The new signings Coutadeur and Gudjohnsen certainly give the team a boost. Gudjohnsen is a powerful forward who tends to draw defender to him and that makes space for his teammates. We have to stay organised and keep our balance.” Were you expecting PSg to make such a good start to the season?
“You never really know when you start a new season. But what you’re seeing out on the pitch is the result of our excellent preseason. We’ve got a good squad that gets on well. We made mistakes during the warm-up games that we’ve managed to fix during the league matches. Our supporters are happy and that’s a very important thing in my eyes.” You’ve been in Paris for ten weeks now, how’s life?
“It’s all about football at the moment. The kids went back to school and that’s always a big moment for a family. Apart from that, everything is going well and I’m trying to make the most of my free time. This is the first time in a long time that I’ve only had one game per week, so I feel I have a little more freedom. Since I’m lucky enough to live in a beautiful European capital city, I take advantage of that to cruise around.”
