Antoine Kombouaré spoke exclusively to PSG.FR about his club’s start to the new campaign and Sunday’s clash against Lille at 17:00.
Antoine, after the win against Valenciennes, PSG is now third in Ligue 1. Did you expect to make such a good start to the season?“It doesn’t mean anything at the moment because it’s only three matches into the season. The important thing is that we’re undefeated and have taken seven points from nine, with two away matches. That’s a very good thing and now we have to go on with it. We have to keep working, keep our feet on the ground and hope to get a good result against Lille to see just what we’re capable of...”
What do you think of your new signings?
“It’s been very encouraging and very satisfying to see how well and quickly they have fitted in. At PSG, we try and have the recruits playing as quickly as possible. We’ll only be able to judge them in the long run, but they’ve made very promising starts.”
Do you think PSG is already playing its best football?
“We saw against Valenciennes that there is still a lot of work to do. We have to improve defensively, and also collectively: winning back possession, not sitting too deep, transition between defence and attack... But it all bodes well. It’s very encouraging and we’re full of confidence. Victories lead to victories but we mustn’t get ahead of ourselves. There’s still a long way to go.”
PSG are in form as they prepare to take on Lille this Sunday...
“It’s better to take on Lille after a win. We’re expecting a very difficult match. Lille have taken just one point from three games. Against us, they’ll be looking to win back the points they lost. We’ve been warned and we know we’ll have to produce a big performance if we want to win.”
Are you happy to have Guillaume Hoarau back?
“It’s a very good thing. Guillaume is getting back to full fitness. He needs to play, to get his rhythm back, to play again with his teammates. I’m very happy to have him back because he gives me more options. I hope he’ll quickly be back on the goal trail.”
