The clubFonded in 1926, Fiorentina is the football club of the city of Florence, capital of Tuscany. The club’s record is similar to PSG’s in that they have won two championships (1956, 1969), 6 Italian Cups (between 1940 and 2001) as well as the Cup Winners Cup (1961). Last season, La Viola finished fourth in Serie A and will play-off for the Champions League on August 18 and 26.
The squad
Behind Inter Milan, Juventus and AC Milan, Fiorentina has emerged as one the Big Four and counts several internationals in its ranks including Manuel Vargas, Martin Jorgensen, Adrian Mutu and Alberto Gilardino. Two Frenchman also figure in the squad: goalkeeper Sébastien Frey and youngster Matthias Lepiller (20yrs), the Le Havre youth product. During the mercato the club has bought Marco Marchionni (Juventus), Cesare Natali (Torino) and José Ignacio Castillo (Lecce).
