PSG doctor Eric Rolland and coach Antoine Kombouaré announced on Saturday that defender Papus Camara will be sidelined for the next three months due to injury. It's undoubtedly a big blow, but the new man in charge is confident his squad can cover the absence.
Eric Rolland (PSG doctor)“We got a bad surprise when we were analysing the results for Papus Camara. Deep vein thrombosis deep in the right calf muscle was revealed. The treatment for this injury is difficult and time consuming. He will be able to run, but not train with the squad for at least three months.”

What caused the injury?
“We’re looking for the cause but it’s possibly from a long aeroplane trip. It’s very important to wear socks and move around a lot on a long place trip.”
How long is the treatment for this type of injury?
“It takes a long time because to unblock the vein we have to thin the blood. Camara will have a special diet, regular blood tests and plenty of medicine and needles. The fact that he will be taking anti-coagulants for his blood means he can’t play a contact sport. He will be able to run, but not train.”

What’s the latest on Guillaume Hoarau and Mevlut Erding?
“We became aware of Guillaume’s chronic groin problems towards the end of last season and have now put a special programme in place for him. During the recent training camp he slowly built up the intensity and was given the green light to resume complete training when he felt a little pain during the friendly match. But we’re still optimistic. We’re hopeful he’ll be back training in about ten days and still be ready for the start of the season. As for Mevlut, his progress has been very reassuring. He’s continuing to follow his special programme and should be right to play in the next friendly matches.”
| Antoine Kombouaré (PSG coach) “It’s a big blow because I was really counting on him, but the biggest blow is for Camara himself. Maybe it’s my character but I don’t get melodramatic. For me the team is the most important thing and I have quality players to replace him. It will be interesting to see how his mates react. We will all show him that we can step up to the plate for him.” |
