Before fronting up to the assembled media, new PSG coach Antoine Kombouaré spoke to PSG.FR and PSG TV. Check out the first words from the new man at the helm of the capital club...

You’ve just been named new PSG coach, who does it feel?
“First of all, I’m very proud, even if i didn’t really expect to come and coach PSG one day. I’m very happy and ready for this new challenge. I’m here to work hard and take the team as far as I can.”

When you were reserve coach at the club, you never thought about taking over the first team?
“Absolutely not. I don’t plan for anything, I’m not obsessed by my career. I went and coached Strasbourg, then Valenciennes and I could have stayed there. Then Paul Le Guen didn’t have his contract extended. He’s a good friend, but that’s the way it is in football. The club’s directors showed me how much they wanted me to come here. I feel a great attachment to this club and I was happy to come on board. Now I’m the head coach at PSG and I’m very happy o be here. I’m here to take on this challenge.”

What are your goals for next season?
“When you zsee what the cub has achieved this season, you have to aim for the same results or even better. When you’re a competitor, you hope to improve the team and win things. That’s clearly the goal at PSG.”

Do you want to say anything to the supporters?
“If certain supporters weren’t very happy to see me so motivated to beat PSG as coach of Valenciennes, they can understand now, as PSG coach, that I’ll do everything I can to beat VA, Lyon and all the other teams. When you win, you want to keep on winning and take on the best and beat them, with the support of the fans. So I hope the fans have confidence in the team and support us and help us get some great victories.”

Sébastien Bazin: “Antoine Kombouaré has signed a three year contract with PSG, with an option for a fourth year. It’s a long contract that will allow him to build and reinforce the squad. It wasn’t hard to motivate him because he really wanted to come. The first thing that Antoine said when he arrived was that he wanted the means to become champion. I also said that I’ve been at the club for three years and that PSG should be finishing in the top three or four every season. We didn’t miss out by much this season. This team has potential and just needs to be strengthened.”
