Defender Mamadou Sakho discusses PSG’s season ahead of the final match of the campaign at home to Monaco.
Mamadou, PSG have a lot at stake against Monaco this weekend…“That’s right, Saturday’s game is a final against Monaco. We’ve walked really hard all season long and this match is the final chapter.”
How can you explain the fact that PSG’s chances of playing in Europe all come down to this one match?
“I think the team didn’t really make the most of its chances because we could have qualified for the Champions League. We lacked a bit of luck, but a bit of mental strength as well, to get in front of Lyon. But I also think you have to put things into perspective. Last season was incredibly draining for the whole club. This season we had to lift everyone up. And while we certainly could have done better still, it’s been a very positive year for the club.”

How do you see next season?
“Honestly, I haven’t even thought about it. Before then, we’re all going to head off on holiday because we have a small squad and we’ve all worked incredibly hard.”
How do you rate your own season? Have you confirmed your status at the club?
“Confirmed is a big word. I had a few injury problems which restricted me. Personally, I think I had an average season. I’m going to get back to work in the pre-season so that I’m in top form for a great 2009-10 season.”
What sort of match are you expecting against Monaco on Saturday?
“I’m expecting a very difficult match, even if Monaco have nothing to gain or lose. It’s a final for us and we have to give it everything to win.”
