Just 24 hours after the stirring 4-1 win over Nancy, Jérôme Rothen looks back over the match before discussing the upcoming matches for Les Rouge et Bleu.
Jérôme, how are you feeling just a day after the win over Nancy?“Yeah, all good. I had a good night after a good win. All the lights are green. Even the weather’s great so that’s great for the morale. Even though we’ve been winning, it’s still nicer to train in the sun than under the rain. Everything’s falling into place...” The win over Nancy saw PSG take two points out of Lyon’s lead, but also improve the goal-difference...
“Yes, it’s true that it was a good result for the goal-difference, but the most important thing was the three points from the win. Nancy are never an easy side to play against. But we played well, had a bit of luck, and above all, scored those two early goals. We still mustn’t get carried away. For the moment this second place is just anecdotic because it’s a very tight championship. We’re only three points ahead of Toulouse in fifth place. There’s really nothing in it and the smallest slip up will see the others move ahead. We’ll be a lot more comfortable when we have a little break. Mind you, we’ve still got our eye on Lyon, who dropped two points against Rennes... but they’re still first.”

“During this month, we’re going to be counting on everyone. February was tough, but we did come out of it quite well. Up until the international break, March is going to be a really difficult month. We’ve got plenty of matches, playing every three or four days. We’ve also got players suspended and injured so we’re going to be asking a lot of everyone. Recuperation will be hugely important. We’re all competitors and we want to play every match and now we’re going to get our chance!” You scored against Wolfsburg, got two assists against Nancy, how do you feel at the moment?
“I’m feeling better and better. The first months were quite hard for me. I worked very hard for the team to help us find our balance. There have been plenty of changes, but now, everybody has found their place. When the team is playing well, and that’s the case at the moment, players like me start to produce their best. I think finally, we’re seeing the real Jérôme Rothen. I’m having a ball, the club is winning and let’s hope it keeps on going!”

“It’s good for the team! It’s important that the youngsters come and put pressure on the older players because they’re the future of the club. Unfortunately Tripy isn’t going to play regularly until I retire in five years time (laughs). He’s got talent and with training, he’s getting better. The younger players have to take it easy though because the hardest part for them is about to start. But they’ve got their heads on their shoulders and that’s a good thing. They keep working and the coach has confidence in them and that’s great for them.” Check out Jérôme Rothen on PSG TV
