Kezman: ‘Happy in Paris’

Interview | 2009-01-28 | 17:10

Author of a brace against Ajaccio last Sunday in the French Cup, Mateja Kezman talks about his start to the New Year and about his life as a Parisian...

Mateja, how was training this morning?
“Really good! Sunday’s win gave me back a lot of self confidence. After the Christmas holidays, I came back really motivated. I worked really hard in training and I took part in a friendly with the youngsters to maintain my match fitness. Last weekend I had the chance to play in the Cup against Ajaccio and I scored two goals. So this week, I feel fine. I’m a little more confident and I’m getting ready for the match against Caen this Saturday.”

PSG.fr’s internet users voted you man of the match against Ajaccio...
“Ever since I arrived, I’ve felt right at home and I’ve felt that the supporters have been right behind me. They know that the current situation isn’t all that easy for me. I didn’t have the start to the season that they were hoping for, but it’s never too late. There are four months to go before the end of the season and I can still do well. I want to make the supporters happy. They need to know that I never wanted to quit this club, even when things weren’t going well for me. I make the most of every day here because, and I repeat: it’s a dream to play for Paris. Every goal I score in this top makes me proud. That’s why I never give up fighting and I’m convinced I’ll end up being a success.”

How are you approaching Saturday’s game against Caen?
“Obviously we need to win. In this championship, it’s crucial to win at home, because away matches are very difficult. On our home ground, we play in front of 45,000 fans and that’s a huge advantage. Caen are a good team that like to play football. The match at their ground wasn’t easy, but with our winning mentality I think we have every chance of claiming the three points.”

How are you settling into Paris after six months?
“I love this city. Compared to Istanbul, Madrid or even London, there are so many things to do. Having said that, I’m taking it pretty calmly and most of all, I’m taking advantage of the local culinary specialities and the excellent French wine. I live well here. Sometimes my family comes out to see me, otherwise, friends that work or study here in Paris come over to see me. I’m really happy in this city, it gives me a lot of positive energy, like no other city has before.”

Has your French also improved?
“I understand French well, but it’s still a little bit difficult to talk. For the last six months, everyone has given me a lot of help in the squad and I’m improving day after day. I think I’ll be able to get by in French very soon.”
