Here what the coaches had to say, as well as Peguy Luyindula, Sammy Traoré and Apoula Edel after PSG qualified for the quarter-finals of the League Cup against Nancy, 2-0.
Paul Le Guen (PSG coach)“We opened the scoring early on. At first we were patient and tried to build, waiting for the openings to appear. We succeeded through Peguy and the fact that we scored a second goal before half-time allowed us to control the second-half a lot easier. We could have controlled the end of the match a little better, even though, overall, it was a good performance.”
Pablo Correa (Nancy coach)
“I don’t have the feeling we really did enough to win this match. We you make as many changes, as I did, you have to concede that your team is going to suffer – at least a little. But what really annoyed me tonight was our lack of desire. I’ve been in France for 13 years and come to Paris four times, five tonight, in that time. Once to do all my paperwork at the Consulate and now four times as a tourist...”
Peguy Luyindula (PSG Forward)
“It was a good night because we qualified. We are the defending champions so we wanted to be in the quarter-finals. Now we have another match on the horizon. We’ll be playing against Lens, the remake of the final last season. For my first goal tonight, I saw Mateja Kezman in possession and I took off behind the defender, knowing that he was going to give me the ball. I let it bounce and when I saw the ‘keeper coming off his line I hit it first time and it went inside the far post. It’s great, because these two goals qualify us for the next round.”
Sammy Traoré (PSG defender)
“We’re qualified and that’s the main thing. We really wanted to go onto the next stage of this competition. But now we have another important game coming up this weekend against Le Havre. We have to make the points we earned against Lille, really count for something on the road. The job now is to relax, recuperate and prepare for Le Havre.”
Apoula Edel (PSG goalkeeper)
“Everything went well. I knew I was going to play for the last two or three days. I talked it over with Micka (Landreau) and Christian Mas, the goalkeeping coach, who both told me to forget the context and just concentrate on doing what I had to do. That’s what I did. It’s always nice to play at the Parc des Princes with the fans. Obviously I want to play, but I’m still young (22yrs), I need to keep working and be patient. For the moment there are three goalkeepers and I’m number two and Micka is number one. The most important thing tonight was that we qualified.”
