In two years, Maxwell has played 91 matches for Paris Saint-Germain, including 16 in the UEFA Champions League, and has scored 5 goals. He won the French Ligue 1 championship and the Trophée des Champions in 2013.

He has played for some of Europe's biggest clubs, such as Ajax Amsterdam (156 matches), Inter Milan (104 matches) and FC Barcelona (92 matches), and has played a total of 72 UEFA Champions League matches, winning the competition in 2011.

Maxwell has also been crowned league champion in four different countries (Netherlands, Italy, Spain and France). Since he was first called up to the Brazil national team by coach Luiz Felipe Scolari in August 2013, he has earned 7 caps with the Seleçao.
