Thiago Motta: 'Very motivated'
After training for the first time with the Paris Saint-Germain squad on Wednesday morning at the Camp des Loges, the club's latest signing Thiago Motta was officially presented to the media at the Parc des Princes and accompanied by Leonardo.
Why did you decide to join PSG in the final hours of the mercato?
"I was perfectly happy at Inter Milan, playing regularly, but I just felt it was the ideal time for a new challenge, to come to Paris and play under Carlo Ancelotti and Leonardo, who I've already worked with in Italy."
What are your objectives here in France?
"I think the joint ambition of everyone at PSG is to qualify for the Champions League next season. Paris has a very competitive team. I will be training every day with excellent players and we are all very motivated to finish this season as champions and qualify for the Europe's number one competition."
How are you approaching your new career at PSG?
"I'm extremely motivated. This is a new experience for me. I've played in other big championships, but this move is a dream come true for me, as a Brazilian, to be following in the footsteps of Raï, Leonardo and Ronaldinho who all played here. I'm feeling very positive about this new challenge."

What are your first impressions after training at the Camp des Loges today?
"Really very good. Everything went well and I already feel at home. I love change, so it's great to meet all my new teammates, the coach and the training complex. I already know Maxwell, Alex and Sirigu, who I played with in the Italian national team. Obviously that will help my settling in to this new world."
In 2003, with the Brazil U21, you played with Nene, Alex and Maxwell. Did you ever imagine all playing together here in Paris?
"That was a long time ago and of course, we never imagined such a destiny for ourselves. It's great to be back together, especially in such a big club. I admire them all as professional footballers, but also on a personal level, so I don't think it's only luck that sees us all together here today. Together, we will achieve some great things here at PSG in the not too distant future."

Why have you left Inter, when you were one of their key midfielders as well as with the Italian national side?
"I will never forget that I was lucky enough to play there. I won a lot of trophies, including the Champions League. But I still felt like a I needed a change, I wanted to join PSG and become part of another great European club in PSG."
On a personal level, what are you hoping to bring to PSG?
"Today, I'm here to help the club win. The important thing is to play as often as possible. I'll give it everything every day, while keeping Euro 2012 in my mind because I hope to play in it, even though competition for places is fierce."

Leonardo, PSG sporting director: "We're very happy to see Thiago Motta join the club. Even for us it was a nice surprise to see it happen on the final day of the mercato. His desire to join us was an important factor in the negotiations. He has incredible experience and his elegance and his football will help us. We wish him a very warm welcome to his new club. "The marcato has been very positive for PSG. In addition to Ronan Le Crom, three players, from FC Barcelona, Chelsea and Inter Milan signed for the club and they will all be very positive for the squad, especially in mentally, because they will share their experiences. Obviously we are preparing for the future, but we also want to be competitive right now. Since the arrival of the new owners we have signed a lot of players, but it was necessary to have a squad of 25 elements." |
