After the 2-1 loss to Saint-Etienne last time out in Ligue 1, the Parisians were looking to bounce back on Saturday at home to Rennes. But they were caught cold in the opening exchanges when Alessandrini was picked out on the left side of the box and the attacking midfielder lashed home a volley inside the far post to give the visiting Brittany outfit the lead (0-1, 13'). Paris looked to respond immediately but Nene, released into the area by Pastore, saw his effort hit Costil's post (18'). It was a sign of things to come however as moments later, the Argentine picked out the Brazilian and this time the latter chipped the ball over Costil to equalise (1-1, 21').
PSG then looked to have moved into the box seat when Costil was sent off for bringing down Ménez outside the box (25'). But Féret curled home a stunning free-kick to give the away side the lead for the second time (1-2, 34'). Carlo Ancelotti's men refused to sit back, but neither Matuidi (43') nor Nene (45+2') could beat Costil's replacement between the posts, Ndiaye, while Chantôme fired wide (43').
After the break, the home side laid siege to Ndiaye's goal. The chances were raining down, but Matuidi (46') and Thiago Silva (47') both failed to force the new 'keeper into action. Just seven minutes after the restart and Makoun received a second yellow card for catching Nene (52'). PSG's pressing game intensified and Alex saw his header flash just wide (56'). Maxwell broke down the left and crossed for Hoarau only for the big centre forward to hit the crossbar! From the rebound, Pastore sent his half-volley crashing against the post (60')… Paris Saint-Germain desperately searched for the equaliser, but Ndiaye turned on a stunning performance. The Rennes custodian saved from Pastore (75', 90'), Gameiro (79') and Alex (89', 90') to preserve his side's victory.
It was a second straight defeat in Ligue 1 this season and the capital club will be looking to rebound, and book their place in the last 16 of the Champions League, with at least a point from Wednesday's trip to Kiev.
