Sankharé: ‘A very important point’

Interview | 2010-03-09 | 17:00

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Younousse Sankharé talks about his super sub appearance against Lens last weekend before looking ahead to Saturday’s visit of Sochaux...

Younousse, how was training today?
“Really good! But the conditions weren’t easy with a very hard pitch. But everything went well in a good atmosphere like usual.”

Is the point you earned from Lens an important one for you?
“It’s a very important point. We really wanted to avoid defeat and get a result. It was crucial for us. We went there to get the win, but seeing how the game went, the point from the draw is a good result.”

Tell us a bit about that final minute...
“Mateja (Kezman) earned the free-kick which was well-placed for a left-footer. I felt confident and just put all the rest out of my mind. I couldn’t think that it was the last minute of the game – I had to stay in my little bubble. I took my responsibilities and it paid off. But the minute, and who took it don’t matter now. The important thing is that we got a positive result.”

You ran to celebrate with the coach...
“I ran to all my teammates and the coach. He’s with us, he’s one of us and we’re with him. It’s important for us, but also for him. He’s in a difficult position and he protects us a lot. It was a chance for us to pay him back a little.”

Last week you were with the France U-21s. Is it good to change your surroundings occasionally?
“Yes. It’s a different context. I get to catch up with mates my own age and who I’ve played with throughout the representatives age groups. It’s fun. It’s a different world. It’s always nice to be called up to the national team. I had the chance to see David Ngog. Things are going well for him at Liverpool where the coach has confidence in him. That just proves that things change throughout your career. Even if he’s playing at Liverpool and I’m at PSG, we’ll always remain friends.”

How are you feeling ahead of the Sochaux game?
“We need to approach it with the same spirit we showed for the Lens game. We really want to get a good result. We won’t give up – right to the final whistle. We showed against Lens that we can do it. Now we have to do it again.”
