PSG began 2009 in the hunt for all the trophies it was competing for (Ligue 1, Coupe de France, Coupe de la Ligue and UEFA Cup). After a heavy loss to Bordeaux in January, Les Rouge et Bleu strung together four wins in a row in Ligue 1 and the club rose to second on the ladder. Things were going well on the pitch, but off the park, the club witnessed a change in president with Charles Villeneuve stepping down after just eight months in the top job.

Coupe de la Ligue semi-finalists, UEFA Cup quarter-finalists, and last-16 in the Coupe de France, the capital club players were even eying top spot in Ligue 1 in March before a tougher finish to the domestic championship. PSG lost three of their last five Ligue 1 matches and missed out on European qualification that seemed theirs for the taking. They finished just outside the Europa League places on goal difference!

In 2009-10, PSG was to compete in Ligue 1 and the two domestic cups with a new coach (Paul Le Guen's contract was not renewed). Antoine Kombouaré returned to Paris to lead the club into the new season and beyond...
