Edel: ‘Do everything to get the win’

Interview | 2009-12-21 | 17:45

PSG goalkeeper Apoula Edel looks back at his excellent performance between the posts for the capital club, despite a 1-0 away loss to Rennes last weekend, and ahead to Wednesday’s final match of 2009, against Grenoble.

Edel, the weather isn’t great for training at present. How has the work been going?
“I’m compensating for that with a lot of indoor work, skipping, sit-ups... it’s really tough outside at the moment. This afternoon, the synthetic pitch was snowed under so we couldn’t do much out there. There’s also a heightened risk of injury. You can slip easily. Hurt youself where you wouldn’t think it could happen.”

Were you disappointed with the defeat to Rennes?
“It was a huge disappointment. During the match, we felt like we could come back. I was really disappointed when the final whistle went.”

Your performance allowed PSG to stay in the game...
“We didn’t play well. If I had really played well, I would have stopped that Bangoura shot and we would have returned from Rennes with at least a point... it’s a shame.”

Is the team looking for revenge against Grenoble?
“Yes. It’s the last game before the winter break and it’s a home game so we don’t really have any choice. We have to win as handsomely as possible. It will be a tough game because Grenoble will certainly be looking for a point but we’ll be do everything to get the win.”

What will you be doing for the Christmas break?
“I won’t be heading back to Cameroon. I’m staying in France and will stay with some mates for three days in Montélimar. Then I’ll come back to get back to work. We’re back at it from January.”
