Paul, obviously it was important to beat Le Havre after the UEFA Cup defeat to Dynamo Kiev...
“It was important on a psychological level, but also in terms of the three points and the league table. We’ve still got plenty of ambition. We wanted to stay in contact with the leaders and the win sees us now within a point of Lyon. We’re a few points short of Marseille and Bordeaux, but close enough.”

How are you approaching Friday’s game against Lyon?
“We know it’s going to be hard. They’re coming off a loss to Bordeaux and a few average results. But we all know their potential. We know they’ll be out for revenge for last weekend’s match, but also for the first match between us this season.”

What’s the schedule for the squad this week?
“Yesterday we treated our knocks and bruises and gave a couple of days off to those who played on Sunday. We’re back training today, but above all, we’ll be looking to recover physically. We’ve played a lot of football recently so we have to be very careful and give as much time as required to our recovery.”

Is victory over Lyon essential for finishing the season well and qualifying for Europe?
“It would certainly help. An away win at the Stade Gerland would be a great boost for our end of season ambitions. We’re heading there looking for the win, with plenty of desire and motivation. It’s a great match to play in for a player. I think having five days to recover after the Le Havre game will come in very handy.”

Do PSG have a favourable calendar for this end of season sprint finish?
“I think it’s very hard to say. We’re playing against a direct rival in Lyon, but also against others with plenty at stake, such as Valenciennes and Rennes. We have to be prudent and wary of every opponent. Certain teams will be ready to give it everything to get out of their tight spots.”

A lot of young players have been getting a run recently. Are you satisfied by their performances? “Yes, I’ve been delighted by what they’ve shown. Tripy Makonda, for example, helped us out at left-back. It’s very promising.”
