Ceará: 'Extend my stay in Paris'

Press Conference | 2009-04-10 | 16:30

PSG's Brazilian right-back Marcos Ceará looks back at the UEFA Cup match against Dynamo Kiev and forward to Sunday's trip to Lille before he also revealed his desire to extend his stay in the French capital...

Marcos, was the draw against Kiev a good result?
"We've still got every chance of qualifying for the next round. We always want to win, so obviously a win would have been better. But this is the same way we got passed Sporting Braga and we're going to see if we can't get passed Dynamo too."

Wasn't PSG a little too defensive on Thursday?
"I don't think we went out there trying to play defensive football. We had some good chances to score and Dynamo didn't."

Do you feel tired with so many matches every three days?
"The recent two weeks off for the international week did the whole team a lot of good, especially me. I took it easy. I hope I can overcome the fatigue and play through and have a great end of season."

Are you worried the UEFA Cup is going to take up too much energy?
"It's hard to play in two competitions and play consistently. Since the start of the season, the championship has been our priority, but we're still going to try and go as far as we can in the UEFA Cup."

Would you like to have more competition for your place at right-back?
"It's always important to have another player to play the same position. That way, the player is never 100 per cent sure of starting. My goal is always to play as well as I can, with or without competition for my place in the side."

Is it important for you to win a title at the end of the season?
"When you win a title, it's always important, and to win an international title would be great for the club. Our aim is to finish in the top three places in the league and qualify for the Champions League, but the UEFA Cup would also be a great reward for us."

Against Lille, you'll be marking a great player in Michel Bastos…
"I know a bit about Bastos from playing him in Brazil and then from the first match this season. He's a great player in great form. For me, he's the best Brazilian in France. He's scored 13 goals, made 10 assists. He's a dangerous player."

You'll be looking after him on Sunday...
"Yes. It's going to be a big challenge. I marked him well in the first game this season. I hope to do it again this weekend."

Do you have a secret plan?
"There's no secret plan. You have to watch him carefully. He's got a great left foot. He has a great shot and so you have to close him down to stop him from shooting. He's very skilful."

Is he better than Juninho?
"I think so. Juninho is great with the dead ball, but I think Bastos creates more danger running with the ball at his feet."

How do you feel about this season, compared to last year?
"This year, I'm playing better, but the whole team is playing better. The supporters are a lot happier this season. Now we need to finish well to ensure we have something important to show for it, like the Champions League."

Do people in Brazil get to follow your games?
"Yes, a lot of Ligue 1 matches are broadcast in Brazil. Lots of people watch and there's lots of positive talk. I hope that Dunga (the Brazil national team coach) is also watching and that one day he'll give me a chance with the national team."

What do you think about Stéphane Sessegnon after Thursday's game?
"He's a great player who adds a lot to our attacking play. He had chances to shoot but elected to dribble at the last moment. He's an excellent player but does sometimes choose the more difficult option."

Will you be playing for Paris next season?
"I hope so! I have a contract which runs until June 2010. I want to extend my stay. I don't want to have stayed just two seasons and then moved on. I want to stay a long time and leave my mark on the history of the club"
