Ludo, what did you think about the win over Lens?
“I thought we played well. It was a match we really needed to win and we did. It was a real potential pitfall given the recent incidents and history between the two clubs. It was a quarter-final and we’re happy to have won. We scored twice, without conceding any and that means we can go back on the attack.”
Is it also reassuring to get the win after the loss to Bordeaux?
“We needed a win after our match against Bordeaux. Now we have to continue to go on with it on Sunday against Sochaux, because in Ligue 1, we’re coming off a draw and a loss. We should be prudent, solid and, above all, not underestimate our opponents. We also have to win. Sochaux are coming back well. In the first game we found a team that played good football but was right out of luck. Last weekend, they beat Saint-Etienne and that was their second win of the season.”
On Monday, you’re officially opening Camp 8, you’re rehabilitation centre. What can you tell us about that?
“It’s a centre that I created with four other players: Rafael Marquez (FC Barcelona), Lucas Bernardi (Newells Old Boys), Jaroslav Plasil (CA Osasuna) and Akis Zikos. It’s been open since August, but the official opening is this Monday. This project is something really dear to my heart and I hope it will be a really useful tool in the football world. It’s exclusively reserved to professional footballers to help them recover from injury as quickly, and as well as possible. I felt this type of thing was missing in Europe and I hope it is a success. If it is a success, we’d like to open other centres in other countries, such as Mexico and Argentina.”
Have you used your personal experience in the development of this centre?
“Yes, in 2000, I injured my knee ligaments. I was alone for six months and it really wasn’t easy. I felt like I was putting people out when I returned to training. That’s when I started thinking about this type of centre – a place where, from morning to night, you can work with the same person. It’s also good to change your environment when you’re injured. I tried to think of everything that I missed when I was injured. I don’t want any players to get injured, but if they do, I hope the centre can help them recover.”
You’ve already been there at the start of the season...
“Yes, I went there at the start of October. I had a hamstring problem. So far so good. I took advantage of the centre to get back on track.”
