Back from the islands, from Morrocco or just back from their home regions of France, Paul Le Guen’s players got back down to the daily grind at the training ground in Saint-Germain-en-Laye this Monday afternoon. Eight days after their draw against Valenciennes at the Parc des Princes (2-2), the PSG squad got back into their daily routine on Monday afternoon at the Camp des Loges. Only Mateja Kezman and Apoula Edel, excused, were missing from the roll call.

Minutes before the session started, a number of players took advantage of the last moments of rest around the pool table or baby-foot. Nevertheless, if the sunshine made everyone happy, the cold reminded them all that the holidays were over.

15h30: the start of the session. Coming out of the changing rooms, the players discovered a pitch that had been hardened by the frost. The workshops took place on the second pitch which had been warmed up by the sun. After 30 minutes of jogging in front of the 300 supporters who had turned up, the players worked on a series programmes concocted by Stéphane Wiertelak. At 16h15, Christian Mas then brought out the footballs for a session in front of goal, then some shielding work.

After a seesion of an hour and a half, the players will have to take advantage of a good night’s recuperation before their two indoor sessions on Tuesday. They will then continue with one session per day until the trip to Clermont-Ferrand, on Sunday, for the last 64 match in the Coupe de France against Montluçon. The weather conditions could be tricky in the Massif Central where it has snowed profusely during the holidays.

Until then, there will be no time to celebrate the New Year, as there is a training session programmed for the afternoon of the 1st of January. It has to be said that the first few weeks of 2009 are going to be busy with the Coupe de France match against Montluçon on the 4th, a trip to Bordeaux on the 11th, the reception of Lens on the 14th in the Coupe de la Ligue, then the home game to Sochaux on the 18th. Four matches which will have great incidence on the rest of the Parisian season.
