Three days before the first home match of the new season, Jérémy Clément takes a look back at the 1-0 opening day defeat to Monaco. The Rouge et Bleu midfielder also discusses his recent contract extension and new campaign…
Jérémy, how did you feel after the Monaco loss?“We were all very disappointed after the match. It’s never nice to lose. We were really desperate to get the win and make a positive start to the new season. We always look for the win. It was a shame, because I think we could have made better use of certain attacking phases to open the scoring in the first half. Now we have to pick ourselves up for Saturday. We’ve trained well at the start of the week and we’re preparing our match against Bordeaux.” How are you approaching the Bordeaux game?
“It’s the first home game of the term, so we are all motivated to get the three points. We want to do it for our fans and make for a good season at the Parc des Princes. After the loss to Monaco, we need to stay positive and bounce straight back. I haven’t seen Bordeaux play this season, but they don’t scare me. We are also getting Stéphane Sessegnon back from suspension and he will provide new solutions in attack.” Did you consider quitting the club over the summer?
“Yes. I asked myself the question. I decided to extend my contract and I’m very happy. The fact that the players, the club directors and the supporters wanted me to stay, influenced my decision. I’m part of a team and the support I received was great. The signings Ludovic Giuly, Claude Makelele and Stéphane Sessegnon, to a certain extent, was also a factor. I think that Claude can help me improve; his experience, his arrival is a real bonus for me.” What are your goals with PSG?
I joined PSG to fight for silverware and titles. Last season we won the Coupe de la Ligue and could have won the Coupe de France. I hope to relive that type of success and also have a great championship.”
