Le Guen: “Play to our strengths”

Coach’s View | 2008-08-11 | 19:51

Coach Paul Le Guen gives his analysis of the weekend’s Monaco-PSG match and also the reserve side’s victory on Sunday, ahead of the next home game against Bordeaux.

The 1-0 loss to Monaco
“It was a frustrating result. We played well in the first half, were well organised, we wanted to play well and play attacking football. I would have liked us to be a little more incisive going forward, but it was encouraging nevertheless. In the second half we allowed Monaco to take the initiative. That was a mistake. I think that was especially the mistake we made when we conceded the goal on the counter attack.”

The new signings first outing
“They performed how I expected them too, even if I think each has more to offer in the coming weeks. Ludovic (Giuly) had a very good 45 minutes. Claude (Makelele) fought hard and was everywhere in the first half. Guillaume (Hoarau) struggled a little with inflammation of the parotitis during his preparation, but he’s back to his best and showed us his potential. I think he will also keep getting better and better.”

The reserves win, 1-0 over La Vitréenne
“It was a good reserve match. I saw a few of the pro squad play well – especially Younousse Sankharé and Loris Arnaud (scorer of the only goal of the game) who were in good form and played their positions very well.”

The visit of Bordeaux
“We’re going to work very hard at the start of the week and then try and recuperate so that we’re in rime form for Bordeaux. Obviously, they are a great team, one of the favourites for the championship. But we have the potential to get a result. We have to play to our strengths, have everyone on top of their game and I think we’ll be giving ourselves every chance.”
